Possible causes:

Variations in car production colours and variations in re-painting colours, film build, excessive films leading to pigment flotation, insufficient films allowing primer to grin through. Check accuracy of mix, cleanliness of equipment.

Metallic colours can be greatly affected by equipment conditions and technique. Different application processes occur between original enamel and refinish.

Excessive thinner or catalyst can change the amount of flocculation leading to flotation of pigments particularly with fade out processes.
