    Safe Use of Aerosols

    Summary:

    •Aerosol are becoming increasingly used Refinish bodyshops because of their speed and convenience
    •It is recommended that these products are used in a spraybooth or other well extracted environment
    •If there is a desire to use an aerosol product in the open bodyshop then a written risk assessment is required
    Exposure to spray mist and vapours:
    You should carry out a Risk Assessment before starting to use an Aerosol product for the first time
    The engineering control to reduce exposure is local extract ventilation
    Respiratory protection, overalls, safety goggles & gloves are necessary, but remember that you may be exposing others that are not involved in the process to the solvent vapours
    Risk of fire:
    Aerosol paint vapours are extremely flammable
    Ensure that there are no sources of ignition in the immediate vicinity 
    You must be completely satisfied that the local extract ventilation is adequate and that there are no sources of ignition before using an aerosol product
