• Solvent economy is important in paint application since organic solvents are expensive and are totally lost under normal drying conditions. A way of saving solvent is to use the 'hot spray' method.’ This method offers a means of reducing the number of coating operations without loss of good appearance in the finished object.

Paint is heated to reduce the paid viscosity and this allows a higher build of synthetic paint with fewer coats. Accurate temperature control is needed, below 65°C the viscosity may not reduce enough for good atomization, above 75°C may cause deterioration of the paint.

Thinner is not normally added to the paint and the rapid cooling of the paint when it hits the cold surface causes the paint to thicken and helps reduce the tendency to run and sag.
